About the Role
Horizon Foundation is seeking a detail-oriented Finance & Grants Officer to join our close-knit team of 28 staff members supporting communities across metropolitan and regional Western Australia. This role offers an excellent opportunity for an accounting or finance graduate to gain meaningful experience in the not-for-profit sector while contributing to programs that make a real difference in people's lives.
Working directly with our Finance & Operations Manager, Craig Donovan, you'll play a crucial role in managing our diverse funding portfolio, which includes government grants, corporate partnerships, and individual donations totalling $4.8M annually. As we navigate an evolving funding landscape and explore new revenue streams through social enterprise, this position will be instrumental in ensuring our financial sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
- Grant Financial Management: Monitor and track expenditure across multiple government and corporate grants, ensuring compliance with funding agreements and reporting requirements
- Acquittal Reporting: Prepare comprehensive financial acquittals and progress reports for funders, working closely with our Programs Director, Jess Warburton, to capture program outcomes and impact
- Budget Support: Assist with annual budget preparation and quarterly budget reviews, providing financial analysis to support decision-making across our youth employment, digital literacy, community health, and emergency relief programs
- ACNC Compliance: Support preparation of Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) annual reports and maintain compliance with regulatory requirements
- Financial Administration: Process accounts payable and receivable, reconcile bank statements, and maintain accurate financial records using our cloud-based accounting systems
- Social Enterprise Finance: As we expand our social enterprise operations, provide financial support for these revenue-generating activities including cost analysis and pricing strategies
- Donor Database Management: Work with our Fundraising & Partnerships Manager, Amara Osei, to maintain accurate records of individual and corporate donations
What You'll Bring
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Excel and experience with accounting software (Xero experience preferred but not essential)
- Attention to Detail: Strong numerical accuracy and ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously
- Communication: Excellent written communication skills for preparing clear, professional reports for diverse stakeholders
- Values Alignment: Genuine interest in community development and social impact, with understanding of the challenges facing disadvantaged communities
- Adaptability: Comfort working in a dynamic environment where priorities can shift based on community needs and funding opportunities
- Preferred: Previous experience with grant reporting or not-for-profit finance, though graduates with strong foundational skills are encouraged to apply

- Competitive Salary: $65,000 - $70,000 plus superannuation, commensurate with experience
